A little about me. I grew up loving sports. I grew up breaking up with boys for not liking the same sports team I did. The first time that happened was in 4th grade. I was a Dolphins fan. My "boyfriend" was a Bears fan. Because I couldn't convince him to start liking my team, I dumped him. Simple solution. Anyway, I digress. I have always loved sports. I was the girl who would rather watch a sporting event on tv than any kind of "soap opera" drama. And at present, I would rather spend my money attending a sporting event than going to some boring movie or out to dinner. I guess I would rather be doing something sports(ish) than doing anything else. Did I play sports? I was on the dance team and I was a cheerleader for a spell. And I dabbled in some church basketball like nobody's business (*rebound machine*).
My favorite teams. This is a hard thing to address for me because my love runs deep for many teams in many different sports. If you truly know me, you know my one true love (besides my husband and family) is anything to do with the Louisville Cardinals. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Louisville. I loved my time on that campus. I loved being a season ticket holder for football and basketball games. I can't help it. I love all things Louisville! Now that I'm living in the area again, I love going to Louisville baseball, basketball, football, and soccer games! I also made sure that my husband (who is from Seattle) would agree to support this team before I married him. He did. Go Cards (forever and always)!
Okay so now that I've confessed that
MLB. One team. And one team only. New York Yankees, baby! Why? Well, first of all, the American League is way better. In my opinion. Also. My dad was always a fan. So I guess I "inherited" my love for the Bronx Bombers. Oh and Derek Jeter. I used to be in love with him. Like....send a birthday card to his fan mail address every year in love. Yikes. I guess he didn't get those letters because he never asked me out on a date. Derek Jeter's last game was very emotional for me. And I might cry a little as I type this. The Yankees can never be the same for me but I will love them just the same!
Soccer. Oh.....soccer. This is one sport my husband converted me to. I have to admit that I thought the sport was a big snooze fest. That was until my son started playing soccer. And play soccer he does. We basically live, eat, and breathe the sport! So my favorite team is basically whatever team my son plays on. I'm not a huge MLS fan but I also follow my Louisville Card peeps around. New England (Andrew Farrell) and DC United (Nick DeLeon) are some of the teams we follow. But we choose to "support" the Columbus Crew because they are closest to us. Our real infatuation is with the EPL and the Bundesliga, though! I LOVE German soccer (Bayern Munich). My husband supports Manchester United and my son and I support Chelsea in the EPL. We are a house divided there but we survive.
NBA. Again....I watch a lot of teams with former Cardinals rostered. But for the last 20 years, I've liked the Pacers. Living in Indy for a bit and sitting courtside (shout out to Alan Mowrey) at a game a few times was a dream come true!
There you have it. I love sports. I really do. I don't only love them, though. I KNOW them. I feel that in my lifetime (of 36 years), I have been dismissed time and time again as a girl trying to get into the "boy" conversations! Golly gee. They feel silly when I can hold my own! Just listen to me (or read what I have to say)! I know what I'm talking about! Follow my blog and I will prove it! I can run with the big dogs!
